It will allow him to host the game on his pc, then you two can join that session. There will be no tether distance. If the pc isn't beefy, you next option is to look into renting a server for a monthly fee.

And as above say; you can't even change it. At least in survival evolved you were able to change the tether length, only ever being teleported when host went into a cave. But now even if you change it, the distance will always be 180 meters.The tether is now set at 5 or 9, but somehow we can still separate and glide all over the map without triggering this minimal tether, so long as we don't change zones. It is almost as though the tether setting is no longer real.
