Even a tier 1 sorcerer thrall does that. All tiers of sorcerer thralls give the same benefits - spell page research. There is a chance creating a page will fail and produce a failed spell page, but apparently that is a set chance and nothing impacts it. So at the moment, higher tier sorcerer thralls are no better the the bottom tier one.

You cannot remove a thrall from the wheel of pain before they are broken. Well, actually you can, but then the thrall is gone; the game will warn when you attempt that. Bugs aside, it is not possible to get an unbroken thrall. Ah, I wasn't sure about that, thanks! I think the lack of response was them figuring it out.
For pve the use of a thrall is basically a boss farming tool. You want to maximise damage and ap for direct combat while still keeping them alive. Heavy armor, hands down. Thralls don’t dodge so this should be a given. Maximize dr while having a set that boosts str and/or vit.
