When it goes into reduced engine, the ECM turns off the injector on the cylinder that is knocking, and it goes away. Guessing you can figure out which cylinder it is by turning off injectors with a scan tool.

If you think it might be a rod bearing, pull the filter cut it open, unroll the filter media and take a look for metal, you can also order an oil sample kit, take the sample send it in and it will also tell the tale, if its a bearing. Once you remove that hub then you can see the cam gear and pin. It might be fine, and your issue is just the hub in front of it.
