As for the question that was originally asked. I am seeking opinions on the FAL as a home defense gun. I have an ar-15 carbine-----I hate it---what a piece of shit.I have The FAL Rifle, The FN FAL Primer and The Fabled FAL. Hey all, I'm in the home stretch for completing one of the lightest FALs ever. (Well, the lightest without machining material from parts and furniture.) She's already under 8 lbs with an empty para mag which was my original goal, and now I'm going to see how low I can go. Hard to beat a good Argentine Malbec. She's together and shooting right now.

Well-known member. Point of order: The Aussie L1A1 was designed, manufactured and used as a semiautomatic rifle, not as a select fire rifle, just as was the British L1A1. It never was a machine gun unless converted or modified into one. The BATFE has never ruled that a sear cut upper on a FAL makes it a machine gun.

Be careful not to get a 4800 though, that was a post import ban weapon and many have been reconfigured to pre ban form. All FN imported FALs are pre ban.
