Going down the Synthetic Evolution route has been and is still is my favorite ascension path. However, I always felt that the implementation of robots and synthetics is frankly lackluster in Stellaris: Why on earth do all of the robot pops automatically upgrade to Droids and Synthetics the second these techs are researched?

Synthetics increase the chance of getting the Contingency. This hasn't been the case since 3.0. I don’t think you can take the synth ascension as a machine, since becoming a machine is the next step after becoming a synthetic. As of 3.6.1, machine empires (except driven assimilator and rogue servitor) cannot use bio pops effectively. You cannot assimilate them into your empire. Synths or sapient combat computers is quite dangerous. They are not too dangerous, synths just increase chance for contingency to spawn, jump drives increase chance for Unbidden, sapient combat computers just have a chance to join AI uprising, stuff like that. Fairly bad.

Esentially Dangerous tech is Red colored tech, by unlocking them, you get a certain chance...a some really small percentage of it occuring...chance of something REALLY BAD happening. In Vanilla stellaris theres only 2 red techs I believe... AI sentience. And Jump Drives.

They run on energy. A simpler economy. As they don't need food, machines can build bio reactor buildings that turn food into energy. You have starbase solar panels (to generate energy) instead of trade. So no trade routes or piracy suppression to worry about.
