2015 - 2020 Ford F150 - grinding on acceleration. IWE? - This morning I had grinding on acceleration. I engaged and ran 4x4 for a minute then disengaged it and I had no more grinding. It was probably the coldest I have ran the truck so far but just under freezing overnight.
To rule out/in IWE you can do 1 of 2 things. 1. If you have 4A, leave it in 4A. 2. If you don't have 4A, pull the electrical plug to the solenoid on the drivers side firewall. Both should keep the IWEs engaged. See if the noise reoccurs. If it doesn't, then it has something to do with the IWE system.
To bypass the Ford F150 4X4 actuator you simply need to disconnect the vacuum hoses that are connecting the vacuum solenoid valve to both the IWE side and the engine intake side.
