I did a wet test of this boat back in the mid-90's, it was horribly underpowered with a 50hp Johnson. Heavy hull @ 1600 lbs naked with a 17* deadrise, draft is definately not microskiffish-say 12" loaded. It was solid and dry for a 16' but not fishing friendly. Thats depends on hull a little. Horizontal allows for curves in the hull should you choose to adjust brackets and allow that. Either way weight is right where the brackets are so vert or hor works.
