Hey gang, I repair/refurbish D104's all the time, mostly TUG8's. A common failure is something on the amp board going bad-weak. I do collect good boards from cosmetically bad mics for parts. Even the newer models are excellent. Can't go wrong with it. I think the older D104's battery situation is a bit outdated - though. The newer D104's require the common and much cheaper 9v battery - instead of the older and harder-to-find 'stacked' battery found in the older models of these mics. Which are twice the price as the more common 9v.I tell all D-104 owners that you need to replace the single electrolytic capacitor on the amp board due to the age of these mics. If that cap is dried out, the mic will sound like crap and people will blame the element and that may not be bad. Easy fix and the cap is just a buck or two. (amplified D-104s) Sonar.The mic element is in fine shape and working great as tested on my other D104 mics. Used a Jonard OB-1/3 burnisher tool on the contacts along with Deoxit D5.
