I find this useful in early game when you don't have much inferium yet but you still want to craft a higher tier seed.Upgrading the seeds works like cross breeding. Put 2 crop sticks down, so you get the vertical and horizontal sticks, and then put the inferium seeds on the neighboring blocks.
