Yes there is an adjustment, - if it is "self adjusting", - you will have to pull the brake drum off and look at it, - you just turn the adjuster back about 1 or 2 turns, and then see how it "spins -- (after you have re-installed brake drum), and applied brakes once to "center the brake shoes"!

What you are experiencing is a misalignment of a gear and a collar. The gear and collar have "dogs" on them that stick out off of the sides of both the gears and collar.
