Feb 24, 2023. #1. I have a 24’ pontoon with a Mercury 90hp 4 stroke outboard. My engine info tag says that I have a 2007 90ELPT 4S. I’m working on it for a family member. My problem is that while in gear (F & R) @ idle, when I shift into Neutral, the engine stalls every time. It will immediately start with the ignition key while in Neutral.
Re: 2003 Mercury EFI 4 Stroke 115 HP I bought a one of these motors brand new. Had the same problems along with several others. Had to replace the high pressure fuel pump and the injectors. Along with that the powerhead was replaced in the first 3 months of operation. The control module went out the 3rd year.He said this eliminated the problem. The HP pump has a connector with two connections. One is connected to an earth, and the other is connected to the starter relay.
